Completion requirements

Video Transcription

0:08 – The teacher greets the students and introduces herself as Andrea Molina, explaining that this is a masterclass for Unit 5: Places.

1:00 – She explains the lesson objectives: describe a town or city, talk about hostels and hotels, and ask and say where places are.

1:28 – As an introduction, she shows a short video with examples of places like houses, hotels, hospitals and monuments in a town or city.

2:49 – The video “Places in the city – There is / There are” presents example sentences with parks, museums, hospitals, restaurants and houses.

5:27 – She uses a museum picture to discuss what things there may be inside: art, photos, tickets, a store and possibly a restaurant or a phone.

9:39 – The reading about Stovepipe Wells in California describes a very hot desert town with tourists, hotels, a restaurant, a store and a gas station.

11:39 – The reading about Resolute Bay in Canada describes a very cold place with long nights, a small population, an airport, stores, a school and hotels.

13:20 – She explains that there is is used for one thing (singular) and there are is used for two or more things (plural) in English.

17:05 – In the grammar section, she focuses on affirmative sentences with “there is / there are” using the picture of Regent Street (cafés, supermarket, movie theater, people).

21:04 – Students practice describing Regent Street and another picture, correcting sentences about apartments, cars, supermarkets and other details.

27:01 – A vocabulary section introduces places in town: store, restaurant, school, bank, café, hotel and more examples.

35:11 – A listening activity presents more vocabulary of places: subway station, supermarket, school, hotel, hospital, movie theater, park, museum, beach, bus stop, etc.

37:45 – The second grammar section explains negatives and questions with “there is / there are”, including forms like “there isn’t / there aren’t / there’s no / there are no”.

40:17 – She shows how to form questions by changing the order (e.g. “There is a café.” → “Is there a café?”) and practices short answers: “Yes, there is / No, there isn’t”.

56:31 – A listening about a hostel receptionist and a guest (George) shows a real conversation using Is there...? and Are there...? about rooms, showers, Wi-Fi and cafés.

1:00:16 – She reads a hostel review that mentions available rooms, shared showers, kitchen, Wi-Fi and simple but friendly accommodation.

1:06:00 – At the end, she reviews the main contents of Unit 5: grammar (there is / there are in affirmative, negative and questions), vocabulary of places and practice with readings and listening.
